The legend of Steve French--
Here are a couple of pieces done as I moved around famed art model Steve French in March. I'm taking a break from oil painting in order to concentrate on my gesture drawing and digital painting, but - looking at this quick study- I'm missing the feel and fun of oil already.

Wall Street Journal piece
I had the opportunity to illustrate a six panel comic strip for an Op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this past weekend (scroll down a bit after linking). Got the call Friday afternoon and it was in Tuesday's paper. They did a great job with printing and lettering-- I was surprised at how good the color looked on newsprint!-

O'Brien the Barbarian
Robert E Howard's writing always seemed to have a lot of references to the Celts and played with their misty history, so why not?!

Cleaning up some loose ends
It's been a while since I've posted anything from class, so here are three oils. Two of them had been posted in earlier stages and, what's represented here, is what I consider "done" (the only painting I do outside of class is digital, so what gets done in class is all that's gonna get done). The third piece is a three hour study of model John King. I really liked the start on this and wish that I had gotten at least another 3-6 hours to work on it, but-- well-- we went and had a baby : )
